Adahan DeCamondo Pera, Autograph Collection

The building was put up in 1874 by the Camondo family — Sephardic financiers whose name is still attached to the famous staircase below in Karaköy — and the hotel that occupies it now is the most recent Marriott Autograph Collection address in Pera. Fifty rooms, careful restoration of the period details (chandeliers, mouldings, the floor pattern in the lobby), and the kind of building that asks to be photographed badly by every guest who passes through.

There is no pool or spa, which limits the day-use case. The afternoon proposition is the rooftop: Béatrice is the all-day restaurant and cocktail bar at the top of the building, and the view tilts west toward the Galata Tower and the Golden Horn — best in the hour before sunset, when the Horn turns the gold its name promises. Day-use access is on direct request only (pera@decamondo.com or WhatsApp +90 531 651 82 50); the gym is included for spa-style guests on stays of a different length, and on a long lunch booking, the front desk will usually arrange a quiet table.

The hotel sits in Asmalı Mescit — the Pera neighbourhood of restored Ottoman flats and slow restaurants that runs east from Tünel — and it is a five-minute walk to the Pera Museum, ten to the lower end of İstiklal. Useful for an afternoon that wants the building itself to be the entertainment.
